Judith Bushnell, the college archivist has been assisting the AUAA . With Ms. Bushnell’s help we have discovered some very interesting information.

 The following is a summary from the “Commencement Paper of 1905”- Geneseo Normal School.

“A sorority was formed in 1892 as the Athenaean Society, a sister organization of the Zetomatheans Fraternity.

 In 1894, the Zetomatheans were invited to join the Gamma Sigma Fraternity (brother fraternity of Arethusa at Brockport) and became a chapter.”

Due to Gamma Sigma’s influence the Athenaean Society became the Gamma Chapter of Arethusa the same year.
